A MESSAGE FROM THE JUDGE

In 1997 while searching for a place to call home, my husband Ed & I chose Columbia due to the desire to establish our family in a diverse and inclusive community. Since that time, we have lived in Long Reach and our daughters attended Oakland Mills High School, where we have become deeply rooted in the community from summer swim team to OM Athletics and Performing Arts to Leadership Howard County.

My desire to continue to serve our community lies in my commitment that all residents deserve an experienced Judge who is committed to listening to cases fairly, without partiality or prejudice. Thus, I have chosen throughout my 22 years as a public servant to be independent and unaffiliated with any party.

I ask for your vote on Primary Election Day - July 19, 2022

FORMER CHIEF JUDGE MARY ELLEN BARBERA, MARYLAND COURT OF APPEALS

As the recently retired Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland, I am in a unique position to understand the requisite skills, experience, and demeanor that the bench requires. Judge Porter’s extensive trial experience as a prosecutor and her knowledge of the law prepared her to make sound rulings from the bench as a magistrate and now as a judge. Having a skilled trial attorney as a judge assures all parties, including defendants who face the most severe consequences, a fair and just trial in court. I am proud to endorse Judge Stephanie Porter.

AFRICAN AMERICAN COALITION OF HOWARD COUNTY

Judge Porter is an asset to the Howard County Circuit Court bench. She is a former prosecutor and Magistrate and has presided over thousands of cases. Judge Porter is a person who possesses considerable integrity, judicial temperament, and high moral character.  In addition to her service on the bench, she is a dedicated community leader and is an asset to our community.

Moreover, Judge Porter is honest, courageous, and exercises considerable prudence.  Her colleagues, especially lawyers, speaks of her “excellent logical reasoning, analytical decision making toward sound legal decision.”   Then Judge Porter is spoken highly of in terms of her respect for attorneys and lawyers, especially minority attorneys when the latter bring cases before her.

The Judge Porter family is a close-knit interracial family with two Black daughters.  This is an ideal family providing and boosting her with the experience, ability, and knowledge to help the community sort out solutions in rectifying today’s youth problems.  This is why the African American Coalition of Howard County (AACHC), highly supports Judge Porter for the Circuit Court for Howard County.

JASON SHAPIRO, ESQUIRE, SZA LAW FIRM

I enthusiastically endorse Judge Stephanie Porter for Judge of the Circuit Court for Howard County, Maryland.  I have known Judge Porter since she began practicing law as a Prosecutor, and she and I have had many cases together.  Although at that time we were adversaries, never was she anything but civil, professional and well-prepared.  As she gained experience, Judge Porter was elevated to the position of Magistrate and then to Circuit Court Judge. Her background as a seasoned trial attorney, knowledge of the law, and polite demeanor ensures that the parties to a case will be treated fairly and that the outcome will be a just one, based upon correct and applicable law. Howard County is lucky to have a Judge with the wonderful qualities, attributes and keen mind possessed by Judge Porter.

MARYLAND STATE BAR ASSOCIATION

For 125 years, the Maryland State Bar Association has served as the voice of the profession and has had a longstanding policy to support sitting judges in contested elections.
Judge Stephanie P. Porter of Howard County is a sitting judge in the upcoming 2022 election.

This esteemed member of the bench was appointed by the governor after a rigorous process, based on her judicial characteristics, quality and merit. That's why she has earned the confidence, respect and support of the MSBA.

MARY KAY SIGATY, FORMER HOWARD CO. COUNCILPERSON AND HOWARD CO. BOARD OF EDUCATION MEMBER

Stephanie uses her experiences on the bench and her knowledge of our community each time she hears a case. She works to ensure that all who come before her will be heard fairly. I can’t think of anyone better to be a Howard County Circuit Court judge.

LOUIS JAY ULMAN, RETIRED COUNSEL OFFIT KURMAN, AND 50 YR COLUMBIA RESIDENT

I support Judge Stephanie Porter because she has been vetted by and recommend by a number of diverse bar associations and the judicial nominating commission. Her depth of legal experience as an assistant state's attorney, magistrate, and now circuit court judge is why we need to keep Judge Porter.
